New Video! - Under Blue Stars

New Video! - Under Blue Stars

  • 2/9/2021 9:53:00 PM
This is the third video I’ve shot with my director friend Armen Varadian. I think he is a great director not only because he has a keen eye for a cool shot (with a difficult subject), but he also has a way of tapping into the meaning of a song without being too obvious. We shot this just before the new year on a chilly day in and around Boston. I hope you enjoy it.

A Year End Wrap Up

A Year End Wrap Up

  • 12/29/2019 3:30:00 AM
Thought I’d send a little year end wrap up, and cover a few topics people have been asking about. It was a pretty incredible year for me. I played 153 shows and opened up two major tours for artists I greatly admire. I performed in listening rooms, amphitheaters, house shows, rock clubs and theaters. I drove a lot of miles...a LOT of miles. As most all of you know, one of the biggest highlights of my 2019 was opening for Rob Thomas on his national tour this past summer. With that in mind, I wan...

Cuba Cruise/Other Musings

Cuba Cruise/Other Musings

  • 4/28/2019 3:00:00 AM
A couple weeks ago, a slightly inebriated fan asked me, “Yo Chris, what’s up with the Cuba cruise?” Although he may not have been a poet laureate, his words impacted me just the same. It suddenly occurred to me that my hosting a cruise might seem slightly out of left field, so please allow me to explain how it came to be.

Spring 2019 - The Non Glamorous Side Of Touring

Spring 2019 - The Non Glamorous Side Of Touring

The singer/songwriter Martin Sexton (who I've been on tour with for the past seven weeks) often says “I get paid to travel but I sing for free”. I always like hearing this quote because it gives me both a sense of gratitude and an acknowledgement of where our labor hours are logged.

New Shows + The Push Stars + Buffalo

New Shows + The Push Stars + Buffalo

So here I am in Washington, D.C. after a solo show at the lovely City Winery. I'm booked at a fancy hotel a half mile from the White House. Had I been aware that the majority of rooms here had windows overlooking a sprawling view of the lobby and not the outdoors, I probably wouldn't have stayed here. However the lobby is kind of pretty, and I realize I am lucky to stay here. When I think back to the early days, staying at the very un-fancy Motel 6's, where the windows overlooked eig...

India / A Moment Too Late / Spring Tour

India / A Moment Too Late / Spring Tour

I am writing this on a flight right now, heading home from a two week trip to India. The plane is a symphony of babies crying, people coughing, a Vietnamese mother of two throwing up in the next row (we talked before the flight) and the woman in the seat next to me applying incredibly toxic smelling nail polish. It is a perfect stew for sleeplessness and hence, the best time to write a newsletter.

The Magic Of The Road

The Magic Of The Road

  • 11/8/2017 5:22:00 PM
As I slide into my seat on my flight from Chicago to Boston, the overly calm voice of the pilot informs us that this will be an "extremely bumpy flight". For some reason, it doesn't phase me in the least because I am feeling a huge sense of gratitude right now. I feel like I've somehow managed to find the majority of the puzzle pieces needed to construct a beautiful portrait of a life I couldn't have even dreamed of living. In the past two months, I've gone from doing t...

Ready to hit the road, or not...

As summer marches toward its final bow and the soon to be transformed trees stand waiting in the wings, I am reminded that, wow, it went by pretty quickly. Typically, I take as much of the summer off as my budget will allow but this year I decided to spend some time working with my band of brothers, The Push Stars.

The Huffington Post Interview with Chris Trapper

The Huffington Post Interview with Chris Trapper

One of my personal go-to sources of peace throughout the years has been the brilliantly gifted songwriter, Chris Trapper. To hear his story peppered with a sanguine outlook is a gift. Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with Chris before his show at one of Denver’s best spots for live music, The Soiled Dove. His show was just what the doctor ordered and then some. The story behind the story? Chris tells it best in his own words:
