I hope everyone had a great summer, got to dip your feet in the water, feel the strength of the sun, etc.... after all, that's what this life is about. At least that's my best guess. In other news I shot a video for my song called If You're Still There which was in the movie "Some Kind of Beautiful". (it's on YouTube now) And, I am doing a multi-city tour for the Fall. And The Push Stars (my old band) are getting together to do a couple of shows which is exciting ...

Having your cake and eating it too ... It took me a moment to realize I was looking at an early picture of myself. Being the youngest of six kids there aren't many pictures of me as a boy floating around in the family. It's not that my parents were retired from parenting, but I think they were just less concerned with the minutiae by the time I came along.

One of my personal go-to sources of peace throughout the years has been the brilliantly gifted songwriter, Chris Trapper. To hear his story peppered with a sanguine outlook is a gift. Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with Chris before his show at one of Denver’s best spots for live music, The Soiled Dove. His show was just what the doctor ordered and then some. The story behind the story? Chris tells it best in his own words:

Somewhere around November 2013 I got a call from Richard Lewis, a Hollywood producer/screenwriter I had met in 2006 while shooting a scene for his movie August Rush. I had been lucky enough to be included by a music supervisor friend into a lottery of songwriters asked to write a key song for the movie and my song eventually landed. Although I didn't sing the song in the film ( the actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers did) the song seemed to work quite well, and Richard was nice enough to let me tag along...

Before you read this, I want to apologize. My original intention for these e-mails was promotional only, and fun, but in time I realize they have progressed into personal territory, like diary entries. I also realize a lot of you may view me with the same level of scrutiny you’d use to study a circus monkey: fun on a Saturday, forgotten by Monday.

Suddenly it occurred to me, not everyone is going to see my music the same way I do: (Duh!) as essential, all encompassing, can't sleep at night because it's so crucial, type of material. I suppose for most, music is a secondary thought. It is something to listen to while getting dressed or while driving somewhere. Something supplemental.

Just wanted to say hello, and get current before all the leaves fall off the trees. What I thought would be a quiet summer ended up being busier than I expected. I played about once a week, and wrote and recorded seven new songs. So, music was all around me. I took trips to Buffalo three times, Cape Cod two times, Philly, Montreal, NYC, Hampton Beach, and even hung out on Saranac Lake for a couple of days. Summer was here and gone before I could say "allergy season".
